They say that we women are harmless for as long as it takes our nail paint to dry. I’ve personally found myself turning pretty docile when my nails are long and painted. Why, then, do we have such a fascination for long, pretty nails? Well, the truth is, as women, we often make strange choices and indulge in not-so-meaningful practices, just to make ourselves happy. Yes, you read that right – our beauty choices are to make ourselves happy, with occasional bouts of desire to impress other women.

Nail painting is something that has always impressed me. It used to be a fairly easy and inexpensive method of boosting my mood. But as a messy, impatient girl, I could never paint my fingertips properly. Then, I discovered manicure and nail art. And my life changed… Umm, all right, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but I can’t really deny the benefits of it.

This was one of the main subjects of discussion when I went to R4 salon recently, for a manicure and nail art session. I started talking with the nail experts. In short, a professionally performed manicure enhances the way the hands look, and accentuates the personality of a woman. Most industries, these days, expect the professionals to look well-groomed, and properly manicured and painted nails are important an important part of the appearance.

Good quality nail paint on properly manicured nails is also good for the health and longevity of the nails. The R4 nail experts told me that they use nail polishes loaded vitamins and minerals, and such paints strengthen the nails and make them grow for a period of time. (Remember to ask your nail artist if she the product she is planning to use is growth-resistant and chip-resistant).

The concept of ‘manicure’ has been changed over the years. Earlier, painted nails meant class and elegance. But now, it is more than just the way the nails look. Sure enough, my manicure session left me extremely happy, knowing that it’s a well-planned, healthy option for my nails. Of course, we can’t ignore the role that nails play in fashion and pop culture. As a young woman, I all for using nail polish to express myself.

Whether you want to look like a fashionista or have a fun or even humorous edge in your appearance, nail art can help you express yourself with creative use of fun colours, patterns and much more, and break all rules. And I could not be happier about how they look now – all thanks to the fun manicure session of R4!
