Dressed in the traditional red and white saree, with a brass plate filled with flowers, vermillion, fruits and sweets in hand, Neha Nandi stood in line to bid Ma Durga farewell. Under the scorching sun, Neha stood with a smile on her face and hope in her heart that today her wish will be fulfilled. As the day ended, Neha returned home and on her table lay the brass plate untouched.
It was while she stood, did the other women in line snarl and pass lewd comments finally pushing Neha Nandi out of line. It was like just any other day where she had been treated like an outcaste for being a transgender. We claim to live in a progressive society, but our mind hasn’t kept pace with the changing time.
Ishq 104.8 proudly associates with a movement of change called ‘OIKOTAN’.
When love has no borders or boundaries, then why do we create one?
To break the age old belief of keeping the third gender outside the society is a thought of the bygone era. People like Neha Nandi, deserves love, trust and above all, acceptance…because they are one of us.
This doshomi on 19th October, we stand united with women we popularly address as transgenders from Troyee foundation at Santoshpur Lake Pally from 12 noon onwards to celebrate womanhood in harmony.
