HOME, the silent digital short directed by Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee has won an award in the category of the “Most Promising Director” at the Kolkata International Short Film Festival curated by Sourav Chakraborty. Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee’s maiden short film Home, inspired by Sahitya Akademy winner Arundhati Subramaniam’s poem is a silent short film and celebrates the spectrum of gender across the lives of women. The film features Sohag Sen, Sudipa Basu, Tuhina Das, Bidipta Chakraborty, Chandreyee Ghosh, Sauraseni Maitra, Debjani Chatterjee, Ratasree, Aparajita Auddy, Sohini Sarkar and Paramita Saha. The music score is by Subhen Chatterjee and shot by Modhura Palit. “This is the first recognition for the film and I hope the film gets to an OTT platform for viewing by millions globally”, said Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee, director of HOME.

The pandemic has surely put the concept of HOME on a shift. The idea of a refuge or shelter has transformed too. Home is a part of a huge spectrum of gender today. For so many who are struggling to liberate, a space possibly encompasses so many elements – sexuality, imagination, functionality, safety, self alignment and maybe realignment. The ‘crevices’ that form within us are possibly healed when we step into that space of re-orientation. A deconstructed view of home could also be a belief that one adheres to live. A belief of transcendence. Home is in the mind – a space that embraces you. The quest for a home is eternal. The film is about that search and a transcendence in that journey.
Produced by Paromita Lahiri Banerjee, Deepak Bajaj, Preetam Mukherjee and Aritra Sen, HOME is about women sharing their ecstasies, uncertainties, solitude, libido and of course a friendship with oneself. The film is a string of images and conversations in silence that builds up and even deconstructs the verse. The star cast includes Sudipa Basu, Sohag Sen, Tuhina Das, Ratasree, Sauraseni Maitra, Debjani Chatterjee, Sohini Sarkar, Aparajita Auddy, Bidipta Chakraborty, Chandreyee Ghosh, Suparna Datta and Subhasree Patel.
The film is mostly a social experiment with poetry and has been directed by Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee and mentored by Sohag Sen.

Talking about the film Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee said, ” The poem haunted me for years, first introduced to me by my sister Anuradha Sen. My film begins where the poem finishes. The transcendence of life above everything is my story which the verse asserts in many ways.”
DIRECTOR’S NOTE:My take on home is primarily to transcend from where the poem finishes and bring in the elements of “crevices”, “cacophony”, “yesterday’s conversations”, through images that speak of libido or loneliness, friendship and of course gender.
