‘Little Bit Indie’ Launches in Kolkata, Bringing the City’s Underground Music Scene to Life
On the evening of 17th May, Moonstone Multimedia introduced Kolkata to Little Bit Indie – a new monthly live music IP designed to celebrate original music, independent artists, and the growing cultural pulse of the city’s underground scene. Hosted at Little Bit Sober, the debut edition was more than just a gig; it felt like an intimate community experience built around music, storytelling, interaction, and emotion.
The launch edition also marked the release of The Man On The Moon by Coup Jean, setting the tone for a night rooted in indie pop, R&B, vulnerability, and connection. From the moment guests began arriving, the atmosphere carried a warmth that felt organic and immersive rather than staged. The existing aesthetic of the venue blended naturally with the vision of the event, while subtle additions transformed the space into something deeply personal. One of the most memorable elements of the night was a guitar covered in sticky notes carrying half-written prompts from the team, inviting attendees to complete thoughts, emotions, and memories in their own words. Over the course of the evening, the installation slowly evolved into a collective expression of the room itself.
The first set introduced audiences to a newer emotional and sonic direction emerging within Kolkata’s independent music scene. Coup Jean delivered vocals for The Man On The Moon while Soumojit on keys added a cinematic texture that shaped the emotional core of the performance. The audience moved fluidly between quiet listening, singing along, dancing, and simply soaking in the atmosphere.
As the night progressed, the energy shifted into a more immersive second set featuring Bidisha — founder of Moonstone Multimedia and curator of the event — whose performance reflected the passion and intention behind the initiative. Accompanied by Joesjoint’s MIDI set, the performance leaned into layered soundscapes and emotionally charged moments that kept the crowd fully engaged. Hosting duties were led by Abhirup, whose presence and flow kept the energy alive throughout the evening while seamlessly guiding audiences through performances, interactions, and activities.
What stood out most about the first edition of Little Bit Indie was the diversity of people who showed up. Over 60 attendees across different age groups gathered to experience the event, creating the kind of shared cultural space that independent music events in Kolkata are increasingly striving toward. Conversations between strangers turned into singalongs, dance circles formed naturally, and moments of reflection existed comfortably alongside celebration.
With Little Bit Indie, Moonstone Multimedia is attempting to build something larger than a recurring performance night. The IP reflects a growing desire to create structure, visibility, and meaningful spaces for independent artists in Kolkata — offering audiences experiences that feel emotionally honest, interactive, and community-driven.
If the first edition was any indication, Little Bit Indie has already begun carving out its own place within the city’s evolving independent music culture.
