Flavours of Freedom: Iconic Kolkata Eatery Celebrates Independence Day in Taste and Tradition
As India prepares to celebrate its 79th year of independence in 2025, the spirit of unity will
shine not just through flags and festivities, but also on the plates of those who know where
to dine. Across Kolkata, restaurants are getting ready to mark the occasion with menus that
blend nostalgia, creativity and the bold hues of the national flag. Among them, one name
stands tall, Aminia, poised to celebrate with special offerings that honour its rich culinary
legacy and invite diners to be part of the flavourful festivities.
Aminia
The connection between Aminia and India’s own freedom story runs deep. On 15 August
1947, the day the nation became independent, Aminia opened one of its most iconic outlets
in the New Market area. That shared date remains a source of pride, and every year the
restaurant honours it with the Azadi Festival, a celebration of flavour and freedom. From
Tiranga Kebabs in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian variants, to generous Azadi Kebab
Platters arranged in saffron, white, and green, the Azadi Festival menu is a tribute to the
tricolour in both form and flavour. To round it off, the Tiranga Mocktail, made with
refreshing layers of fruit juices and khus syrup, serves as the perfect patriotic sip.
