Due to the extreme heat, the summer vacation for government schools in West Bengal has been rescheduled to begin three weeks earlier than originally planned.
A senior official has stated that the summer vacation for government-run and aided schools in West Bengal will commence on May 2 instead of the originally scheduled date of May 24. The decision to reschedule the vacation was made due to the sweltering heat across the state, and it was instigated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. However, an official notification regarding this change is yet to be released. Education Minister Bratya Basu confirmed the rescheduling when asked about it by reporters. The India Meteorological Department has warned that heat wave conditions will continue during the weekend in several districts, including Bankura, Purulia, Paschim Medinipur, Paschim Bardhaman, and Birbhum, where hot and dry weather is expected, and temperatures may increase by 2-4 degrees.
