“Jadavpur University and St. Xavier’s College Dominate Bengal: Topping the NIRF Rankings”

“The former, which bagged fourth position nationally among universities for the second year straight, was the only state-run university to figure in the national top 10, while the latter has been ranked the fifth best college in the country. Calcutta University (CU), which was the country’s eighth best university last year, slipped out of the top 10, to 12th spot. Among colleges, right after St Xavier’s is Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College, Kolkata (eighth nationally), Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira (15th) and Ramakrishna Mission Residential College (19th). Overall, IIT-Madras has topped the rankings, while Bengal’s best show was from IIT-Kharagpur, which bagged the seventh spot. JU has ranked 13th overall and CU 23rd. The list of research institutes is headed by IISc Bengaluru, with IIT-KGP finishing fifth, JU 19th, CU 35th and IISER, Kolkata 40th. Among the top-100 engineering institutes, IIT-Kgp has earned sixth spot, followed by JU at 10th, up from last year’s 11th and IIEST, Shibpur at 35th, up from last year’s 40th, and NIT Durgapur making an appearance at 43rd. “Despite financial and infrastructure constraints, Jadavpur University has been able to retain its NIRF rank. This was possible because of the dedication and team spirit of the JU community,” said Suranjan Das, former vice-chancellor of JU, under whose tenure the data was compiled and submitted.”
